Cathedral Cemetery

The Cemetery
Saint John Orthodox Cathedral Cemetery is located on Monastery Drive, across the street from the cathedral and Saint James House. Birch, spruce and alder trees surround the grassy slope where granite and cedar crosses mark the graves.

On one side is the glass mosaic shrine of Our Lady of the Sign and a sheltered log bench. Local songbirds, eagles, owls and even moose are frequent visitors to the area. Nearby, a trail leads through the woods to the St. Sergius of Radonezh Chapel.
Our Purpose
This private parish cemetery is intended for the burial of Orthodox Christians. It is maintained as a place of respectful repose for the departed. The area provides a place for reflection and prayer in a peaceful natural setting. All are welcome to stop and enjoy the beauty and quiet.
Our History
The cemetery was established in 1983 after the death of parishioner Agileen Lund. It is on the church property that was set aside at that time. A look at our archive will show you information on other burials. A large cross marks the resting place of +Archimandrite Lazarus Moore who spent his last years in this community. He is known for his translation of many Orthodox texts.
