Saint John Orthodox Christian School has been in continuous operation for more than 20 years by families seeking a loving, Christian environment and a solid academic curriculum for their children. As a ministry of Saint John Orthodox Cathedral, the school is situated in a quiet, beautiful setting on the church grounds.

Saint John Orthodox Christian School is pleased to offer a pre-school program for three to five year olds. The pre-school curriculum is comprised of enrichment activities which include arts and crafts projects, music, outside activities, games, story time and supervised free play.

• Our Preschool II class is for children who have turned 4 years old by September 1st. It meets 3 mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) from 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
• Our Preschool I class is for children who have turned 3 years old by September 1st. It meets Tuesdays & Thursdays either from 9:00 - 11:30 AM or 12:30 - 3:00 PM.

The cost for Preschool II is $150 dollars per month; Preschool 1 is $125 dollars per month.In addition, there is a $35 non-refundable registration fee plus a $50 materials fee.

Saint John Orthodox Christian School offers both a full day or optional half-day kindergarten program. Academics will be primarily taught during the morning hours of 8:30 am to 11:50 am. The afternoon schedule will be comprised of enrichment activities that include science, arts and crafts projects, music, outside activities, games, story time and supervised free play.

Curriculum

• Harcourt Trophies (2003) Language Arts - a comprehensive reading, writing, spelling, and grammar program based on solid research.
• Saxon Math - a complete mathematics program which focuses on the mastery of foundational concepts. K-3 utilizes manipulatives to augment instruction.
• Harcourt Science - activity based program with units on earth, life, and physical science.
• Houghton-Mifflin Social Studies - textbook based program that covers various cultures, geography, United States and World History.

Kindergarten/First Grade Admission Requirements: To be eligible for kindergarten admittance, children must be five years of age on or before September 1st. All students entering first grade must be six years of age on or before September 1st.

New Student Admission Procedure 

Step 1: An interested family should arrange a visit to the school to include a school tour and a get-acquainted visit with the administrator. The Application Form and Student Handbook may be picked up at this time.

Step 2: Complete and return the form to the school ofice.

Step 3: We will request from the previous school (if applicable) a record of transcripts and standardized test scores.

Step 4: We will schedule a date for a brief assessment of the prospective student (the evaluation is very informal for incoming kindergarten students).

Step 5: We will schedule a date for a family interview at which time transcripts, standardized test scores and the evaluation will be reviewed and discussed with the family.

Please note: Students applying to Saint John Orthodox Christian School who have been suspended or expelled from other schools must expect a very careful review and evaluation prior to being accepted.
