Mission Statement: The Eagle River Institute is hosted annually by the members of Saint John Cathedral to provide a forum for Orthodox scholars to address lay people on topics relevant to everyday, Christian life. The Institute also contributes to the greater, educational needs of the Church by publishing its lectures as podcasts.
The Institute began in 1995. It is held each summer August 1-5, and offers twelve hours of instruction in a variety of Orthodox topics, including Theology, History, Liturgy, Spirituality, and Scriptural Studies. In 2020, it began a cooperative effort with the International Orthodox Theological Association (IOTA) to develop catechetical resources.
Lodging: A limited number of guest rooms are available on the Cathedral grounds. Some lodging may also be available in the homes of parishioners. For more information please inquire by email, firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 907-696-2002.
Meals: Saint John’s parishioners will provide snacks during breaks and a hearty, fasting meal between sessions for all participants.
Childcare with planned activities will be provided during sessions for children ages one and older. A large lawn, playground, and woods all around provide older ones many places to play in the long daylight hours of the Alaska summer. Please pre-register by June 30 so we can know how many will want childcare.
